I Still Don't Get It But Game Of Thrones Is Getting A Spin-off(S)

Season eight will be the last season of ‘Game of Thrones’ — but fans will have enough to hold them over for the rest of their lives. HBO just revealed four spinoffs are currently in the works.

The Game of Thrones universe that has blown up into one of HBO’s most popular creations is never dying. And I mean never. HBO has hired four different writers to explore the possibility of multiple follow-up spinoffs — something never done at HBO.

The writers are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island, Fox’s Minority Report); Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale, L.A. Confidential); Carly Wray(Mad Men) along with George R. R Martin; and Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class) who will also write with Martin.

The current EPs and showrunners for the show—  D.B Weiss and David Benioff— will also be attached but will not write. There is currently no timeline attached to the projects, as HBO said they’ll take as long as it takes.

Do I understand the hype of Game of Thrones? Sure. Fantasy books and/or television aren’t my cup of tea, but for the most part, the acting, the writing, the character development, the visual aspects of the show, are all magnificent. But four spinoffs? I just have one question: Why?

I get spinoffs, and to be honest — it’s the world we live in. Everyone gets so invested and obsessed with something, they need more. We’re greedy. HBO has stayed away from that … so why change now? Granted one of these may be a prequel and one or more may (and probably will be) an introduction of an entire new group — but why not just make a new show? Do we really need the Game of Thrones backdrop to keep the audience? The answer to that is no.

HBO is a network without limits. All of the new writers have extremely impressive and diverse backgrounds, and we all know that Martin knows how to come up with a fresh idea and run with it. So why not end GoT after eight, as planned, the way he planned. If you love something, set it free, TV fans! How many bad spinoffs/revivals do we need to see to realize that sometimes, that really is true.

So, let me ask you dear Airinformats before your boy, Asomp start getting bored of the series. Do we really want four Game of thrones spinoffs? 😒
